New emergency service solutions developed in the NEXES project will be presented at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Ljubljana
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana is organizing a workshop, pilot demonstration and a consortium meeting for a H2020 project NEXES between 10th and 13th of April 2017. During the workshop and pilot presentations, the next-generation emergency services solution will be presented and demonstrated to the NEXES project partners and several invited representatives of public safety organizations.
The NEXES Consortium
NEXES (NEXt generation Emergency Services), a EU research project is involved with the development of Next Generation Services in the field of emergency calls, which utilize modern smartphones and new mobile and web technologies. The project connects 17 organizations from 9 EU countries and Turkey, which also include civil protection and disaster relief services, police, research organizations and mobile operators. The Slovenian participants include the Faculty of Electrical Engineering from the University of Ljubljana, Telekom Slovenije, and the Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief as a supporting partner and a potential user of the solution. The project was assigned 5.700 000 EUR in funds, and will last 3 years, from May 2015 to May 2018.
A New Generation of 112 services
The goal of the project is to develop and test a new generation of 112 services, which, in addition to the traditional voice calls, also support other methods of communication with 112 services and a wider ecosystem of public safety. The developed system will be among the first in the EU that also supports international routing of 112 calls based on user location. The Slovenian project partners are developing a smartphone mobile application that will allow precise detection of caller location with the help of the satellite positioning systems and other means of positioning, and forwarding of key information about the accident to the 112 centres in the form of a structured incident report, photographs and video footage from the scene of the incident, as well as live video communication.
A New Generation of solutions for the deaf and hearing impaired
The NEXES project is also involved in developing specialized 112 solutions for the deaf and hearing impaired, adaptations of mobile networks for the Next Generation 112 solutions, and advanced solutions for fast forwarding of information about incidents to different responders, thus reaching the rescue units in the field more quickly. The solution makes use of the fourth generation mobile technologies (LTE 4G) as well as several concepts of the Internet of Things (IoT).
